Baleia
THE VILLAGE
At the beginning of the last century, a fishing community settled on this beautiful and huge beach lined by coconut trees, creating the village of Baleia over the years. A quiet place who lives to the rhythm of fishing and local commerce.
Baleia means “whale” in Portuguese, it comes from the remains of a large wale that drifted and became trapped in the sand on the beach, remains that are still present and can only be seen during some exceptionally low tides.
NATURE
The Lençóis Baleienses are right behind the village, a set of rainwater lagoons enclosed between the dunes that surround the village, a surprising landscape.
In the nearby Mundaú river, the landscape changes completely, the mangroves make their way as they move away from the coast, while on the other side of the village, on the beach, the natural pools offer a unique place to rest.
KITESURF
Its beach has areas of reefs that disappear completely at high tide, easily visible and avoidable at low tide, allowing navigating between them with complete peace of mind.
On the way to Mundaú, there is an amazing desert beach with excellent conditions, the mouth of its river offers an incredible spot when entering it to navigate among the mangroves. Its sediments near the coast leave an area of flat waters with an unforgettable landscape.
